Dakota Johnson was trending on Twitter Wednesday (15 July) for a pretty simple reason: People are convinced she’s come out as bisexual.

Considering that sexual frustration now comprises around 92 per cent of most people’s existence, and LGBT+ representation in Hollywood is still so very low, can you blame them?

An interview in which the Fifty Shades of Grey star alludes to being attracted to more than one gender has resurfaced, with fans scrambling to react to the actor’s apparent coming out all the way back in 2017.

Chatting to Vogue at the time, the 30-year-old said: “I’ve been in a phase of my life where I’m fascinated by young women coming to terms with their sexuality.

Dakota Johnson, circa 2017: ‘Can we say that I’m taking this time to explore my bisexuality?’

“I guess, by proxy, I have been experiencing that in my own life, and it’s very interesting to me.”

Johnson was discussing her breakup from model and Drowners singer Matthew Hitt. “I don’t do casual very well, and my feelings, even the good ones, get so intense that they hurt,” she candidly said.
Fear of emotional pain and rejection and a craving for companionship? Truly peak queer culture.

“Can we make things really juicy?” Johnson then wryly told the interviewer, “can we say that I’m taking this time to explore my bisexuality?”
As the interview radiated across Twitter, timelines became flooded with photographs of Johnson, many of her and bi queen Audrey Plaza and pan royalty Cara Delevingne and many, many of her aggressively mint green kitchen.

But all truly joyous at the possibility of Johnson being queer.

Then again, Johnson is currently dating straight culture incarnate: Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. She has yet to respond to the online speculation.

So, for now, all we can do is hope.
