RuPaul ‘never made eye contact unless she smelled an Emmy moment’ jokes Drag Race legend Yvie Oddly

Yvie Oddly and RuPaul

Drag Race legend Yvie Oddly joked that RuPaul never made eye contact with her while on the show “unless she smelled an Emmy moment”.

Yvie, who recently returned to the main stage as a lip-sync assassin on All Stars 5, was playfully ribbing her season 11 sister Brooke Lynn Hytes when she made the not-exactly-shocking comment.

Congratulating the cast of Canada’s Drag Race for an “amazing premiere”, she added: “Except for [Brooke Lynn Hytes]… she was waaaaay too relatable and sweet and stunning for my approval.”

When pressed, Yvie jibed: “Maybe I’m just biased because our host never made eye contact unless she smelled an Emmy moment.”

RuPaul is ‘disrespectful’, says Pearl.

RuPaul has long been accused of behaving coldly towards her Drag Race protégées, ever since season seven’s Pearl accused her of being “disrespectful”.

In August 2018, Pearl went on the YouTube series Hey Qween, where she shared a story about trying to thank RuPaul for inviting her onto the show, only to be dismissed.

“I turned to RuPaul and said, ‘Oh my god, thank you so much. It’s such a honour to be here, such a pleasure to meet you, you have no idea.’ Just giving her everything I ever wanted to say to her,” she said.

“She turned to me and she said: ‘Nothing you say matters unless that camera is rolling.’”

Drag Race star Michelle Visage tells a different story.

Pearl said that the exchange was “so heartbreaking” and affected her mindset throughout the rest of the competition.

“I idolised her. I worshipped her. I felt like it was just so disrespectful,” she said.

Michelle Visage later leapt to the defence of her friend, during a discussion with the cast of Drag Race UK.

Divina de Campo revealed that while on set, “if the camera’s aren’t rolling, you don’t speak”.

Michelle added: “[That] is where that quote from Pearl came from, with Ru.

“That whole drama with Ru saying: ‘If the cameras aren’t rolling it doesn’t count’. Because they want the magic.”
