Lil Nas X has finally confirmed his much-rumoured alt account. No, not that kind of alt, but rather a Nicki Minaj stan account.

The “Old Town Road” hitmaker, who has invented in his short time on this whirling rock in space both the word “yeehaw” and being horny on main, has now invented being a fan of Minaj. In other words, being the CEO of Barbz.

That and skewering how the rap and constellating music industries are grounded in toxic masculinities that almost paralysed him before coming out as gay and also stopped him from being open about his love for Minaj.

Lil Nas X  says ‘unaccepting’ music industry would assume he’s gay based on his Nicki Minaj stanning.

In a Twitter exchange early Wednesday morning (June 17), Lil Nas X replied to one of Minaj’s tweets asking if she wants to collaborate with him for a song.

The Queen artist, alas, didn’t immediately reply to Lil Nas X’s proposal, but it did attract the attention of a few Barbz patrolling her mentions.

One quizzed Lil Nas X: “How come you never claimed her when people asked if you were a Barb? We all knew you were.”

“I didn’t want people to know I was gay, to be honest,” he hit back.

Some users sought to reassure the “Panini” singer that listening to certain artists doesn’t somehow change your entire molecular structure and “make you gay”.

“It don’t,” Lil Nas X echoed, “but people will assume if you had an entire fan page dedicated to Nicki you are gay.

“And the rap/music industry ain’t exactly built or accepting of gay men yet.”

So, while some have alt accounts dedicated to, well, being racist, it seems that Lil Nas X just needed a space to stan Minaj while he was in the closet. Understandable.

Some took Lil Nas X’s statement as a veiled admission that he is behind the “@nasmaraj” Barbz stan account.

While representatives of the rapper have repeatedly denied he ran the fan page in the past, New York Magazine reported, an array of smoking guns exist in the weird, elaborate meme ecosystem, from him liking tweets that referred to the account to pages upon pages of archived tweets and Reddit exchanges that appear to connect the two together.
