Harvey Fierstein, Jenifer Lewis, Kristin Chenoweth and more give a rousing virtual rendition of Hairspray’s ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’
Hairspray cast members from years gone by, including Harvey Fierstein, Nikki Blonsky and Kristin Chenoweth, have united for a massive performance of “You Can’t Stop The Beat”.
It drew in a ton of former Hairspray stars in all its iterations, forming a mega-cast to bring the house down with a rendition of the Broadway classic.
Returning favourites include the Tony-winning Harvey Fierstein, film adaptation star Nikki Blonsky, and Kristin Chenoweth of Hairspray Live!.
The string of famous faces taking part also include Billy Eichner, Sean Hayes, and Randy Rainbow, as well as Alex Newell and Jenifer Lewis.
The Actors’ Fund said: “Hairspray alumni from numerous productions, along with other professional theatre, film and television performers [have] come together for a joyous celebration of song and dance in ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat'”
Sharing the collaboration, Sean Hayes added: “So happy help workers and colleagues in the entertainment industry who lost their jobs or need some sort of assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Randy Rainbow said: “Your daily dose of happy is here! So stoked to be included in this epic #YouCantStopTheBeat celebration, raising money and awareness for #TheActorsFund. Watch, sing, dance, ‘YAS KWEEN’ and give if you can!”
Michael Ball added: “If you missed it then have a look. If you didn’t then look again…and I dare you not to grin the cheesiest grin all the way through. Bliss.”
Hairspray is coming back to London.
Hairspray is set to return to the stage in September for a production in London’s West End. However, it is currently unclear in what form the show will go ahead, with the lockdown having cancelled most major events in 2020 so far.
The production will see Michael Ball reprising his Olivier Award-winning role as Edna Turnblad, with Paul Merton as Wilbur Turnblad and Lizzie Bea as Tracy Turnblad.
