Sam Smith has a few cravings to satisfy when the lockdown finally ends.

Speaking to The Sun, the singer confessed that it’s the simple pleasures they’re looking forward to.

The non-binary star said: “I just cannot wait for McDonald’s. McDonald’s and a gay bar, that’s all I need.”

Well, we have good news and bad news on that front.

McDonald’s is currently planning to re-open a handful of stores for takeaway only in Gillingham, Chelmsford, Luton and London this week – with a later national roll-out in the works.

But it might be quite a while before gay bars re-open – if they have survived the long period of lockdown at all, that is.

In his speech on Friday night, prime minister Boris Johnson said that “we will hope to re-open at least some of the hospitality industry and other public places” by July at the earliest, dependant on the effectiveness of other measure to control coronavirus.

Sadly for Sam, this means we’re still likely several months away from a proper night out at G-A-Y – which, let’s face it, doesn’t exactly sound as fun if you have to stay two metres away from everyone else anyway.

Sam Smith keeps Oscar to hand now they’re home all the time.

Elsewhere in the interview, the singer revealed that they now keeps his Oscar on hand during the crisis.

They explained: “I usually keep it in my safe, but since I’ve been at home I keep it out.

“I feel like I’m here, I can protect it. Whenever I’m away on tour I put it away, because you can’t get another one if it gets nicked or anything.”

Smith picked up the Best Original Song gong at the 2015 Academy Awards for his James Bond theme “Writing’s on the Wall” .

‘Stay With Me’ singer faced backlash for ‘quarantine meltdown’ post.

Smith has been transparent about their mental health throughout the coronavirus pandemic, facing trolling in April after posting pictures of a tearful “quarantine meltdown” to Instagram.

Thousands shared posts mocking the singer by misgendering them and comparing them to 99-year-old war veteran Captain Tom Moore.

Responding to the trolling, Smith said: “You know me. I’m always sharing all of my feelings all the time and trying to be as human as possible.

“But sometimes maybe people can read it wrongly but that wasn’t really meaning it in a malicious or nasty way, I was just trying to be myself.”
