Republican politician who blamed mass shootings on same-sex marriage and drag queens just got booted out of her senate race
A Republican politician who blamed mass shootings on same-sex marriage, trans people and drag queens has been booted out of the race for a senate seat.
Ohio state representative Candice Keller made the nonsensical anti-LGBT+ comments last year in the wake of two mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, in which a combined total of 29 people were killed.
She wrote on Facebook at the time: “After every mass shooting, the liberals start the blame game. Why not place the blame where it belongs?”
As well as blaming the “breakdown of the traditional American family”, which she said included “transgender, homosexual marriage and drag queen advocates”, Keller also pointed the finger at video games, Obama, culture and “snowflakes who can’t accept a duly-elected president”.
In response to the post, even members of her own party called for her resignation, but Keller flatly refused.

Chairwoman of the Ohio Republican Party Jane Timkin said at the time: “Candice Keller’s Facebook post was shocking and utterly unjustifiable.
“Our nation is reeling from these senseless acts of violence and public servants should be working to bring our communities together, not promoting divisiveness. I am calling on Candice Keller to resign.”
But Keller responded: “Establishment moderates have never been fans of mine because I ran against their endorsement and won. As the only conservative in this race, I will be taking my Senate campaign to the voters to decide.”
And now, the voters have indeed decided.
The controversial Republican politician suffered a sweeping defeat by challenger George Lang, also a Republican, in the primary contest for a state Senate seat.
Lang received 12,339 votes, while Keller got just 8,107.
According to Clevescene, Keller has also previously compared Planned Parenthood to the Nazi party, and was the lawmaker that introduced the proposed Ohio abortion ban, which recommended re-implanting ectopic pregnancies.
She has also spoke on the radio show of a white supremacist.
