Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Saunders’ Sister Act revival has been delayed due to coronavirus.
Goldberg was set to reprise the iconic role of singer-in-hiding Deloris Van Cartier in a stage musical adaptation of Sister Act, set to run at London’s Eventim Apollo in July and August.
However, with the coronavirus pandemic putting the kibosh on both public events and trans-Atlantic travel, the production has now been delayed until 2021.
Goldberg is still set to star in the delayed production, with Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders still playing Mother Superior — just a little later than expected.
The show will now open on July 20, 2021 — 364 days later than planned — running until August 29.

In a video, Saunders said: “It’s very annoying that we can’t do Sister Act this year, but obviously, because of the virus, it’s impossible. So we’re going to do it next year, at exactly the same time, and all the tickets that you’ve bought will be honoured.
“You can sit in exactly the same seats you were going to sit in this year, and enjoy the show. So I’ll see you then, and in the meantime, stay well and please keep safe.”

Goldberg, who is producing the show as well as starring, said: “We are thrilled with the overwhelming support from people all over the world who have been buying tickets for Sister Act.
“We are all disappointed not to be able to do the show this summer, but Jennifer and I can’t wait to see you all next year.”

Producer Jamie Wilson said: “Due to COVID-19, We have made the very difficult decision to reschedule our London run of Sister Act to 2021.
“By rescheduling the production exactly 12 months later to the same performance dates, meaning ticket holders keeping their same seats, we believe we have made the best decision open to us.
“I would like to thank the team at the Eventim Apollo, Whoopi, Jennifer and everyone involved with the show who has reworked their schedules to make this move possible.
“We can’t wait to open the convent next year and share this incredibly celebratory musical with you all.”
