Ben Platt continues to be a shining light in the darkness with at-home ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ reprise

Ben Platt reprised his Dear Evan Hansen role for the performance

Ben Platt has reprised his Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen role to get us through these trying times.

The actor got together with the cast of the currently-suspended Broadway musical to help those who are struggling by raising funds for Feed The Children and The CDC Foundation

In the clip aired via a special at-home edition of The Late Late Show with James Corden, the cast performed the musical’s most inspiring track, “You Will Be Found”.

James Corden convinced Ben Platt to revisit Dear Evan Hansen for emotional performance.

In his closing monologue before the performance, the TV host explained: “I have really enjoyed sitting here and talking to you and talking to our guests.

“It has been a welcome break, I hope for you as much as it has been for me, over what has seemed quite a scary couple of weeks.

“I found it tougher than I ever thought I would. I found myself having these incredible spikes in anxiety, and sadness when I allowed myself to think about my family back home in England, or my friends or the people I love.

“You feel so out of control in it all. It feels so beyond our comprehension, all of it, that I found I just get sort of overwhelmed with sadness of it all, really.

“And the truth is what I have realised it’s OK, right now, it is all right to feel a bit sad. It’s OK to feel anxious, and the best thing we can all do is try and breathe through that, and try and put our minds in a positive place and think, ‘What can I do to help someone else who might be feeling like this?'”

He added: “Reaching out to somebody else who you think might be struggling too is pretty much the best thing we can all do right now, because we absolutely will get through this.”

“That’s why we wanted to make this show, to try and share in these feelings together, share music that we love with people that we love and know that as much as we are apart, we are unified together.

“And when I started thinking about how I wanted to end the show, I kept coming back to a song from the musical Dear Evan Hansen, called “You Will Be Found”. It sums up how I feel much of the day and kind of what I am trying to say to you right now.”

Fans loved the emotional message of home,

The message of togetherness and hope clearly connected with fans, even permeating in the most hopeless of places – the YouTube comment section.

One commenter wrote: “I want everyone reading this to know that we will get through this. Wherever we are, whatever we do we will get through this. Today is the best day to smile. Because you are loved. And it will stay that way.”

Another added: “I’m a doctor in Canada, and the little bit of normal I get by watching everyone’s late night shows home editions is how I can relax at the end of the day. Its really appreciated. I feel the anxiety and sadness too, but we will get through this strange period in time together.”

One person quipped: “I think Ben Platt is the cure for coronavirus.”
