Lady Gaga has delayed the release of her long-awaited sixth studio album, Chromatica, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The news of Chromatica’s postponement comes as a severe blow to the queer community.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the singer said it had been an “incredibly tough decision” but that “it just doesn’t feel right to me to release this album with all that is going on”.

“Instead I prefer that we spend this time focusing on finding solutions,” she added.

“It’s important to me that the attention is on getting essential medical equipment to healthcare professionals, making sure kids who depend on public schools for means get the assistance they need, and that we help those who will be financially impacted by this pandemic.”

The gay icon also reminded fans that her April and May shows in Las Vegas have already been cancelled because of coronavirus, though she added that she is “hopeful” her later Vegas dates will still go ahead.

Lady Gaga said that she still plans to take to the road this summer for her Chromatica Ball tour.

She also revealed she had a secret Coachella set lined up, “and a lot of other fun surprises”.

Telling her fans that she loves them, Lady Gaga acknowledged that they are likely to be disappointed, angry and sad. But she reminded them: “We are the kindness punks. So I ask you to practice that kindness in these trying times.”

“I hope you can see that when the album does come out, I want us to be able to dance together, sweat together, hug and kiss each other, and make it the most bombastic celebration of all time.

“And until that time comes, LET’S ALL STAY HOME!”

On February 28, Lady Gaga dropped her first solo single in four years, “Stupid Love”.

It was in no way similar to multiple leaked versions of the same song we’d all already heard, and the queers definitely did go wild for it.

Chromatica was supposed to be released on April 10.
