Queer ally Dua Lipa announced she is releasing her new album early in a tearful Instagram Live video, saying she hopes it makes people smile and dance during the coronavirus pandemic.

The full album, titled Future Nostalgia, was leaked online this week but the “New Rules” singer decided to officially release it to lift the spirits of those stuck at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said in an Instagram Live on Monday, March 23: “We all need to actively work together to make a change. But I guess what I’m going to do is instead of my album coming out April 3, my album is actually coming out this Friday March 27.

“Which I’m really excited about, and I am really happy it’s coming out. I’m really excited for you all to hear it and, you know, make of it what you will.

“I hope it brings you some happiness, and I hope it makes you smile, and I hope it makes you dance, and I hope I make you proud.”

The album’s lead single, “Break My Heart”, will also be released along with its music video on Wednesday, March 25.

Of the single, Dua Lipa said: “It’s my forte, which is dance-crying. Although this song comes from a happy place, it’s me writing about the fact that I’m in love and I’m so excited and I’m so happy, but I’m like when is it going to go wrong?

“It’s kind of a celebration of vulnerability and allowing yourself to feel all these things, not really wanting something to ever have an end to it.”

Dua Lipa performed and took part in the parade at this year’s Sydney Mardi Gras, alongside Sam Smith.

Sydney Mardi Gras may have been one of the last Pride events until further notice, as Pride parades around the world are being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
