Gloria Gaynor, who at first was afraid, then she was petrified, as she kept thinking someone with the coronavirus was by her side, is afraid no more.

Not after she took to Instagram Wednesday to post a short TikTok video that showed her washing her hands while singing her 1979 hit, “I Will Survive”.

“It only takes 20 seconds to SURVIVE!” the disco diva wrote in the clip that has since tallied more than 25,000 views.

Gloria Gaynor: ‘Stay safe and healthy everyone!’

In the video, it sees Gloria Gaynor, who has matched her dress with her bathroom candle, carry out the advice from numerous leading health authorities for the public to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds to fight COVID-19.

The delicate but contagious virus is relatively easy to destroy, experts say, with soap easily breaking the fragile envelope that surrounds the tiny microbe.

Gaynor, who will survive as long as she knows how to wash her hands for 20 seconds, is echoing World Health Orgnisation guidelines of washing for two verses of “Happy Birthday” throughout the 11-step scrub.

Her video even spurred countless TikTok users to pump out their hand soap and start belting out “I Will Survive” to, well, survive the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Grammy award-winning artist even shared a couple of her favourite duetting partners on the app.

Gaynor, 70, is the latest person to suggest an alternative to washing your hands to “Happy Birthday” twice over. The tune was suggested by health chiefs as a way to ensure you wash your hands the right amount of time.

Of course, considering that most folks find the song a reminder of the relentless drumbeat of time, many have taken it upon themselves to find fun substitutes.

In staving off the virus, some users recommended washing your hands to the 2017 film, God’s Own Country.  The beloved LGBT+ film features a tear-jerking ending speech from one of the characters that is, apparently, perfect to scrub your hands to.

So, go on now, walk through the bathroom the door, just turn around now and wash your hands for 20 seconds.
