Joe Biden will invite Pete Buttigieg to join his cabinet if he becomes the next president of the United States

Joe Biden accuses Pete Buttigieg of stealing his healthcare plan

Joe Biden has said that there would be a place for Pete Buttigieg in his cabinet if he becomes the next president of the United States.

Biden is now the only centrist candidate left in the race for the Democratic nomination after Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar pulled out.

Buttigieg announced on Sunday night that he was quitting the race and the next day announced that he would be throwing his weight behind Biden.

That decision may be a tactical one for Buttigieg if recent comments from Biden are to be believed.

Joe Biden said he would ask Pete Buttigieg to join his administration if he became the next US president.

Speaking to KHOU 11 News, Biden said he would ask the gay former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, to join his administration if he becomes president.

“I did speak to Pete Buttigieg a couple of days ago to encourage him to stay engaged because he has enormous talent,” Biden said.

“I indicated to him that if I become the nominee, I’d come and ask him to be part of the administration, to be engaged in moving things forward.”

Biden reportedly made similar comments in an interview with Good Morning America, where he said he could see the 38-year-old serving in his administration.

He also praised senator Klobuchar as a “great talent” following her decision to quit the race.

I indicated to him that if I become the nominee, I’d come and ask him to be part of the administration, to be engaged in moving things forward.

After his dramatic exit from the Democratic race on Sunday night, Buttigieg endorsed Biden in Dallas.

“I want you to know how unbelievably and unfailingly decent I have known vice president Biden to be,” Buttigieg said.

“He is somebody of such extraordinary grace and kindness and empathy.”

Biden said Buttigieg reminded him of his son Beau after the gay candidate endorsed the former vice-president.

“I’m looking for a president who will draw out the best in each of us,” Buttigieg continued, and said: “We have found that leader in vice president, soon to be president, Joe Biden.”

Biden then said that Buttigieg reminded him of his son Beau, who died from brain cancer in 2015.

“He reminds me of my son Beau. I know that may not mean much to most people but to me it’s the highest compliment I could give any man or woman.

“Like Beau, he had a backbone like he has a ramrod, I really really mean this.”

He added: “You’re going to end up over your lifetime seeing a hell of a lot more of Pete than of me.”
