Empire actor Serayah McNeill has been slammed by fans after she lit into Dwyane Wade’s 12-year-old daughter coming out as trans with a rather toxic take.

McNeill said that Zaya’s call to come out trans is a “life-changing decision that can never be undone” and her decision to come out is too “premature”.

This is despite the overwhelming evidence that there is, and we cannot stress enough, no difference between young trans kids and young cis kids when it comes to the strength of their gender identity.

The model, 24, is the latest public figure to deliver their piping hot take which nobody ordered, coming after rappers Young Thug and Boosie Badazz both blasted Wade and similarly equated being trans to being gay.

What did Serayah McNeill say?

McNeill harrumphed on an Instagram story Tuesday, according to recordings, about Wade’s parenting, in which the father has been completely supportive and loving of his daughter.

As, you know, a parent should be.

She commented that criticism against Wade is coming from “the age of the child, and I think it’s not only his kid. There are plenty of kids and their parents are letting them do this.

“I think everything is a little bit too much premature. I don’t care if you’re boy or a girl, for me, there’s things we need to be worried about.”

However, when it came to providing the things more important than a child’s gender identity, she simply said: “What do you wanna do in life? Do you wanna be in any activities?”

She continued: “OK, let’s let you go through this, let’s talk about it.

“But let’s not jump to a life changing decision that can never be undone. That’s really serious.”

McNeill then discussed that she knew people in high school that “experimented” and “then boom, I thought they was… that was something they were going through”.

“They’re a child,” she continued for some reason, “your brain is still developing.”

Yet again, this is in contrast to findings from the largest-ever study of socially transitioned trans kids that showed that gender identity and gender-related preferences manifest similarly in both cis and trans kids.

“I’m accepting of my child being gay, that’s OK, but there are so many others things around that in society that is pressuring children and parents to be a certain type of way.

“Let’s just take back the reins, it’s OK. But right now, let’s not go there right now.

“Let’s wait till you get a little bit older, and this is exactly what you want to be and do for the rest of your life.”

It remains unclear, however, how long it took for McNeil to decide this take was something she wanted to say and have recorded for the rest of her life.

‘Is she being serious?’: Twitter users unimpressed with Serayah McNeill’s comments. 

The video was widely panned by LGBT+ Twitter users and allies, many belaboured her for being unable to provide examples of the “the other things we need to be worried about” than a child’s gender identity.
