Jimmy Fallon genuinely thought he’d been cancelled for calling RuPaul a ‘drag queen’

Jimmy Fallon thought he was cancelled for calling RuPaul a ‘drag queen’

The moment TV talkshow shot Jimmy Fallon called RuPaul a “drag queen”, he thought his career would come crashing down. Cancelled. Terminated.

Last week, while interviewing the, well, drag queen on The Tonight Show, Fallon plunged the world into second-hand awkwardness

He quizzed RuPaul about his recent Vanity Fair cover, and referred to it as “first time a drag queen” has ever graced the glossy pages of the magazine.

“A drag queen?” Ru shouts, “a drag queen?”

‘Never in my life have I seen such straight white male panic turn a man that pale.’

Fallon’s face froze, plummeting into the gap between the realisation of the finitude of life and when you realise that, if your life were to flash before your eyes, even you admit it wouldn’t get picked up for another season.

“I am the queen of drag!” RuPaul then clarified just before all the blood apparently drained from Fallon’s face.

The moment went viral on Twitter after one user’s video tallied more than eight million views.

A pretty much everyone mocked Fallon for turning more pale than the Oscars are pasty and white.

Jimmy Fallon: ‘That’s it, I’m cancelled.’

Fallon later revealed yesterday that during that moment of silent terror salted with dread he honestly did think he was going to be cancelled.

“I really thought it was over,” he said on the show, “that was it.

“I go, ‘That’s it, I’m cancelled, I gotta starts my own #JimmyFallonIsOverParty.'”

He added, “I was like, ‘Wait, what did I do wrong?’

“But it was so funny.”
