Blind schoolboy stuns shoppers with karaoke tribute to Sam Smith dubbed ‘out of this universe’ by the non-binary star

Blind schoolboy stuns shoppers with karaoke version of Sam Smith

A blind schoolboy left shoppers at a Filipino mall stunned after casually belting out an amazing cover of the Sam Smith song, “Too Good at Goodbyes”.

Locals browsing for electronics were left amazed at the boy’s karaoke cover, one that the Smith themselves dubbed: “Out of this world.”

Carl Montecido and a classmate strolled towards the karaoke machine in a viral Twitter video, leaving both locals and the Twitterati mesmerised by is talent.

Footage of the spontaneous set went viral last week, with Montecido spotting the karaoke machine in a shopping mall in Bacolod City, in the Negros Occidental province.

So, who is Carl Montecido?

But Carl Montecido is more than his leisurely school uniform may suggest.

Eagle eyed fans quickly identified him online after Smith pleaded on their Twitter: “Who is this kid?”

Montecido is a former contestant of the noontime variety show It’s Showtime segment, Tawag ng Tanghalan. Leading to Smith’s mentions being flooded with clips of the singer belting out an array of songs.

A finalist on the ABS-CBN show in 2016, he jostled his way to finish fifth place.

The singer is currently raising funds to represent Philippines for the World Championship of Performing Arts in Anaheim, California.

He later replied to Smith, thanking them for helping amplifying them.

Countless users praise Sam Smith cover singer.

Twitter users swamped Montecido with praise and applause, with, as is the legal obligation when someone goes viral online, people petitioning for him to have a spot on The Ellen Show.
