It was his first Oscars victory in 25 years, following his 1995 win for The Lion King classic “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”.
Elton performed his wining song at the star-studded ceremony, and also watched on as Janelle Monae and Billy Porter paid tribute to him with a reworked version of “I’m Still Standing”.
It was also a big Oscars night for Eminem, who performed his own Academy Award-winning track “Lose Yourself”.
Eminem and Elton John have been friends for almost 20 years.
Eminem and Elton are the most unlikely friends in show business, having remained close since teaming up to perform “Stan” at the 2001 Grammys.
When Elton and his partner David Furnish formed a civil partnership in 2005, Eminem was among those who congratulated them with an unusual gift.
“And I have to say, they have remained unused.”
