Christian mum who said she ‘lost her kids to the trans cult’ spectacularly called out by her own children

Lynn Meagher

A Christian woman who testified in favour of South Dakota’s anti-trans bill has been spectacularly called out by her own children after she gave an interview saying she “lost them to the trans cult”.

Lynn Meagher, who has two trans kids, was interviewed for a piece in the Christian Post titled: “I’ve lost two kids to the trans cult, I want them back”: An anguished mom shares her journey.

In the interview, Meagher speaks at length about her refusal to accept her trans children, which she blames them for, and her hurt at the fact they disagree with her transphobic views on gender identity.

“She didn’t lose me to a cult,” her eldest daughter said, clarifying that she is estranged from her mum because Meagher is “racist”, “abusive”, “transphobic”, “greedy”, “cruel” and “religiously intolerant”.

“She lost me because she’s a piece of s**t,” she added. “It’s true, we won’t speak to her, although her TERF-ness was only the tip of the iceberg. She was extremely emotionally and physically abusive growing up.”

Meagher used her real name – and the real names of her children, who are 36 and 24 – in the lengthy piece, which also published multiple pieces of personal information about her children, who were deadnamed and misgendered throughout.

Her son, who found out about the Christian Post article after a friend of his searched his name online, also hit out at Meagher’s “hateful rhetoric”.

She had inflicted “emotional/religious abuse and physical violence” on him and his siblings growing up, he said.

Meagher also has links to the neo-fascist group Proud Boys and British anti-trans feminist Posie Parker.

Parker is one of the UK’s most prominent “gender-critical feminists”.

In October 2019, she appeared in what Mumsnet users called a “brave”, “interesting” and “brilliant” video with a French-Canadian white nationalist.

Meagher met Parker along with another British anti-trans feminist, Venice Allan, when the pair made a trip to the US last year.

The three women were connected by ‘Hands Across the Aisle’, an organisation that connects religious bigots with transphobic bigots.

The Proud Boys is a far-right organisation listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a white-nationalist, extremist hate group.

Members of the group are facing charges for an alleged homophobic attack that took place last June in Northeast Portland. Other members have spoken at Straight Pride events.

Meagher’s testimony in South Dakota – where Republican lawmakers have passed a bill that could make it a crime for doctors to give medically necessary treatment to transgender children and teenagers – called trans healthcare “criminal” and “a medical experiment”.

The bill will now go to the state senate where it could become law.
