Lana Del Rey lost to Billie Eilish at the Grammys and fans are displeased to say the least

Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish

Lana Del Rey was snubbed by the Grammys in favour of Billie Eilish and her fans have thoughts.

Del Rey’s Normal F**king Rockwell was nominated for best album at Sunday’s Grammy Awards 2020, but lost out to Billie Eilish’s debut When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which features the problematically-titled ‘”Wish You Were Gay”.

Fans were quick to proclaim “the great robbery of the year”, pointing to the fact that Del Rey’s influence can heard in Eilish’s music.

While accepting her speech, Eilish admitted that she thought fellow nominee Ariana Grande was more deserving, adding: ‘”Thank u next’ got me through some s***.’

While Grande was seen blowing kisses, furryphobe Lana Del Rey appeared less enthused.

As did her fans.

Many compared the result to similar upsets at the 2017 and 2018 Grammys, when Beyoncé and Lorde were overlooked in favour of Beck and Bruno Mars respectively.

Before the ceremony, Lana Del Rey glided down the red carpet in a glittering silver dress she bought “at the mall”.

“This is a last-minute dress,” she told Entertainment Tonight, “but I love it.”

For her part, Del Rey has previously professed her love for Eilish, who she called “prodigious”.

“I love Billie Eilish,” she told The New York Times in August 2019. “I personally am very discerning. I can tell if a female pop singer, for instance, has a generosity of spirit or a playful fire in her heart.”

Eilish has also addressed the comparisons between her and Del Rey, telling The Los Angeles  Times in April 2019: “I don’t want to hear that Billie Eilish is the new Del Rey. Do not disrespect Lana like that.”
