Lesbian couple tell heartwarming story of how they met competing on quiz show Jeopardy

Lesbian couple met on Jeopardy

Plenty of couples have unusual stories of how they first met – but this lesbian couple’s is particularly unique: they met when they were both contestants on US quiz show Jeopardy!.

Emily Therese Cloyd shared the heartwarming story in a Twitter thread to mark 10 years since she appeared on the hit show.

In the tweets, Emily wrote about how she took an online test with the hope of appearing on Jeopardy! and said she was later asked to come in for an audition. After a lengthy waiting period, she was asked to drop by to shoot an episode in California in January 2010.

The women decided to share a Jeopardy! viewing party in Washington DC, where they both lived.

When she got there, Emily recognised a woman from the day she auditioned. The woman introduced herself as Stacy, and it transpired that they both lived in Washington DC. Later that day, they were both called for the same slot and competed against each other.

Things didn’t go so well for Emily. She ended the game with just $50 in winnings, while Stacy came out with much more.

After the viewing party, Stacy and I kept hanging out. Maybe some of you can guess where this is going. Maybe some of you already know.

Stacy had mentioned that she was planning on having a viewing party when the episode came out at the end of March, and – as the women lived in the same city – they decided to have a joint party.

“After the viewing party, Stacy and I kept hanging out,” Emily wrote on Twitter.

“Maybe some of you can guess where this is going. Maybe some of you already know.”

Two years later they got engaged – and invited host Alex Trebek to their wedding.

Just over two years later, Emily and Stacy went to a taping of Celebrity Jeopardy! together, where they asked a member of the show’s crew to hand deliver a wedding invitation to the show’s legendary host Alex Trebek.

Sharing a photo of the returned invitation, Emily wrote: “Alex Trebek wasn’t going to come to our wedding, but he still sent us his best.”

She finished her Twitter thread by thanking Trebek, writing: “Stacy Cloyd and I can honestly say that you changed both of our lives.”

Speaking to Insider, Emily said that their relationship initially started off as a friendship – although they both hoped it could be something more.

“Eventually, Stacy asked me out – on a date, not hanging out as friends,” she said.

“It is a really fun story to share, and other people seem to really like it too.

“We’ve definitely had friends who tell our story to other people, even when we aren’t around.”
