Ryan Murphy, creator of pretty much everything gay on TV, to be honoured for inspiring LGBT youth

Prolific TV creator Ryan Murphy is to be honoured with a GLAAD Award.
The TV creator has championed LGBT+ representation for years across his many TV shows – which include Pose, American Crime Story, American Horror Story and The Politician.
His works from Glee to The Normal Heart have hoovered up GLAAD Awards over the years for their diverse queer storylines – and now Murphy will be honoured himself.
Ryan Murphy hailed for ‘inspiring’ LGBT+ youth.
It was announced on Thursday that Murphy will be presented with the Vito Russo Award for promoting LGBT+ inclusion at the GLAAD Media Awards on March 19.
Previous Vito Russo honourees include Billy Porter, Anderson Cooper, Ricky Martin, Cynthia Nixon and RuPaul.
Sarah Kate Ellis of GLAAD said: “Ryan Murphy is a talented trailblazer behind some of the most innovative and popular LGBTQ projects in television, theater and film history, and he continues to bring underrepresented LGBTQ voices to the table in ways that raise the bar in Hollywood.
“Ryan’s unique and gifted brand of storytelling has not only entertained the masses, but provided LGBTQ youth with characters who inspire them to live boldly and proudly.”

Murphy’s frequent collaborator Janet Mock, who has worked on Pose and The Politician, will also be honoured with the Stephen F Kolzak award, given to an LGBT+ person who has made an outstanding contribution to tackling prejudice in media.
Taylor Swift will also be honoured at GLAAD Awards.
Other nominees at this year’s GLAAD Awards include Taylor Swift – who will be honoured for her work fighting for LGBT+ equality.
The singer earned the nomination for pro-LGBT+ track ‘You Need to Calm Down’ and her campaign for the Equality Act – a proposed law to protect LGBT+ people from discrimination in all 50 US states.
