Jason Derulo thinks Cats is ‘a brave piece of art’ and a ‘deportation to another dimension’ – even if his penis was ‘125%’ airbrushed out

Jason Derulo's bulge

With Cats on the receiving end of a critical mauling, singer-turned-actor Jason Derulo has leapt to its defence.

Cats – Tom Hooper’s big-budget adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical – was released to an almost unanimously negative response this week.

Critics have given the film a series of one-star reviews, calling it “the worst thing to happen to cats since dogs” (The Beat) and “nearly as obscene as The Human Centipede” (Evening Standard).

But for Jason Derulo, who plays Rum Tug Tugger in the film, “reviews don’t matter.”

“At the end of the day, the people are going to go see it and there’s gonna be a deportation to another dimension,” he told TMZ.

“It’s an incredible – a brave piece of art.”

Jason Derulo says Cats ‘defies’ art (no, really).

Derulo compared the film to its on-stage predecessor.

“When it came out on Broadway it was the same thing, people were like, ‘what is this? It’s something totally different.’

“Anytime that you defy what an art form is, anytime that you defy all rules, there’s going to be some pushback.”

TMZ had asked Derulo whether the film might have been more well-reviewed “if they hadn’t CGI’d your junk out.”

The singer claimed earlier this week that his bulge had been removed from the film in in post-production.

CGI’d the d*** out? Yeah they did.

Sirius XM’s Andy Cohen brought up his appendage in an interview, saying: “You’re in tights in Cats, it makes me think they…”

“CGI’d the d*** out?” Derulo interrupted. “Yeah they did. I noticed that.”

“You think that they airbrushed your penis out of the Cats film?” Cohen asked.

He replied: “125 percent… I see it in the trailer.”

Cats star Jason Derulo gave us a glimpse of his scratching post.

Derulo’s appendage became a star in its own right at the start of December, after he shared a revealing underwear shot to Instagram.

The image, in which Derulo’s rather large, erm, scratching post, was clearly visible through his boxers, was removed from the social media network for breaching “nudity or sexual activity” guidelines.

“F*** you mean?” Derulo said, sharing a screenshot of Instagram’s reprimand.

“I have underwear on, I can’t help my size. #BringBackAnaconda.”
