Schitt’s Creek creator Dan Levy sent his love to queer fan who shared an emotional coming out video.

Schitt’s Creek begins with a fairly straight-forward premise – a family of billionaire socialites are stripped of their riches and transplanted to a small, forgotten town – but it stealthily becomes a queer love story for the ages.

The central relationship between David (Dan Levy, also the show’s creator) and Patrick (Noah Reid) has won the show a fervently loyal LGBT+ fan base, including among them a young lesbian who said it inspired her to come out.

Ellie, from Scotland, posted a video to Twitter saying that she’d just told her mum that she is gay.

“I was watching Schitt’s Creek, the episode called ‘Meet the Parents’ – it’s my favourite… it hits me right here.”

The instalment in question sees Patrick come out to his parents, who respond with nothing but love and acceptance.

Ellie continued: “I was watching it and Patrick has just come out, and I was like wow, I should do that.

“So I rewinded it and I watched him come out again, then I rewinded it again and I cried a little bit.”

You and us both, Ellie.

“But then I was like, I’m gonna do this. I was pushing myself a bit.

“But I did it, I went downstairs and I did it, I just told my mum that I’m gay.”

Happily, Ellie’s mum was “fine” and “really supportive”.

“She had her suspicions,” Ellie admitted. “But I did that.

“I would not have been able to do this without Schitt’s Creek, that show has helped me a lot.”

Levy retweeted the video, adding: “And so I cried. Sending you so. much. love.”

His Schitt’s Creek boyfriend Reid added: “This is the absolute best! Sending you big ❤️”

Schitt’s Creek recently released the trailer for its sixth and final season, which begins in Canada and the US on January 7.

The show is ending on a high, with all four main actors – Levy, his father Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara and Anne Murphy – winning nominations at the Critic’s Choice Awards.

Eugene Levy and O’Hara were also nominated at the 2019 Emmy Awards, where the show competed for outstanding comedy series (losing to Fleabag).
