Ellen DeGeneres claimed she hadn’t been invited to Dakota Johnson’s birthday party, and Dakota Johnson said not today Satan.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show is usually known for warm, friendly interviews, goofy humour and big-money giveaways.

It is not usually known for Emily Maitliss-style interrogations backed with signed and dated receipts, but apparently Dakota Johnson didn’t get that memo.

The actor appeared on DeGeneres’ talk show to discuss her new film, The Peanut Butter Falcon, when things got really awkward, really quickly.

“It’s good to see you,” DeGeneres said, wishing Johnson a belated happy birthday.

“How was the party,” she asked. “I wasn’t invited.”

What followed can only be described as five minutes of absolute scenes.

“Actually that’s not the truth Ellen, you were invited,” the Suspiria star said.

“Last time I was on the show, last year, you gave me a bunch of s*** about not inviting you [to that year’s party] but I didn’t even know that you wanted to be invited.”

Actually that’s not the truth, Ellen.

“Well who would want to be invited to a party?” asked DeGeneres, to which Johnson replied: “Well I didn’t even know that you liked me.”

Send. In. The. Burns. Unit.

“Of course I like you,” Ellen laughed. “You knew I like you.”

“But I did invite you and you didn’t come,” Johnson replied.

As the comedian continued her denial, Johnson pulled out a fist full of receipts.

“Ask everybody. Ask Jonathan your producer.”

As a producer confirmed that Ellen was “out of town”, she admitted: “Oh yeah, I had that thing. I think I do remember, thank you.”

The ice-cold exchange promptly went viral, with Johnson’s chaotic energy consuming the messier end of the queer Twitter spectrum.

Things got even wilder once the internet realised that the reason why DeGeneres was “out of town” was because she was busy watching a football game with her friend George W Bush.

Honestly, the entire video is messy AF and deserves to be played in the Louvre ad infinitum.
