One of Britain’s “first gay dads” says that he plans to have more babies with the man he is divorcing his husband for, who is also his daughter’s ex-boyfriend.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow recently announced that he would be divorcing his husband of 32 years after falling “head over heels” for his 25-year-old personal assistant Scott Hutchinson, who once dated his 19-year-old daughter Saffron.

Barrie and his husband Tony Drewitt-Barlow made history in 1999 when they became the first gay British couple on record to have children conceived with donor eggs and carried by a surrogate.

The ‘gay dads’ share twins Saffron and Apsen, both 20 next month, as well as three younger children: Orlando, Dallas and Jasper.

Barrie has now revealed that he plans to have twin daughters with his new parter, choosing their sex through IVF.

I want to get any negativity out of the way before our babies arrive.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “I don’t want there to be any secrets and I want to get any negativity out of the way before our babies arrive.”

‘Britain’s first gay dads’ have been platonic for years.

Barrie and Tony became civil partners in 2006 and married in 2014.

But Barrie says that their relationship has been platonic since 2006 when Tony was diagnosed with cancer.

“Tony and I decided many years ago it was better we had separate rooms,” Barrie explained to The Sun.

“He’s my true love, I will never not adore him. he’s the most sensitive, loving person.

“But somewhere along the way we turned from lovers into friends.”

Barrie said that Scott became a “shoulder to cry on” after Tony was diagnosed with cancer again in 2018, leading to feelings developing between them.

“There were days when I wanted to end it all,” he said, “I didn’t want to go on.

“I spent a lot of time with Scott and realised nine months ago that I had started to have feelings.”

Now, Scott, Barrie, Tony and their children live together in the Drewitt-Barlow’s £6million Florida mansion.

In the next three weeks, Barrie and Scott plan to have a surrogate inseminated with two embryos, with each man having fertilised one.

Barrie said that he “hadn’t contemplated having any more children, especially at my age”.

“But Scott has always wanted to have a child of his own so I said if he wanted us to be parents together, I would support him in that and have a baby with him,” he told the Mail.

The couple plan to use gender selection technology “in the hope that we could try for daughters – princesses to spoil”.

Tony Drewitt-Barlow will be godfather to husband’s children.

Tony has given the couple his blessing and hopes to be godfather to their children.

Barrie added: “I can’t believe that 20 years ago I was doing the exact same thing with Tony and I’m here again, full circle. I’m excited but nervous now. Tony has promised he would be godfather.”

Scott has previously said that his relationship with Barrie’s daughter Saffron was never sexual.

“Saffron is one of the best friends I could have asked for,” he told the Mail. “She and I are so close. She understands everything.”

On social media, Saffron said that “there was never any[thing] more than a friendship” with Scott.

“Scott had told me he was gay years ago, and I agreed to help him keep his secret by pretending to be his girlfriend,” she said.

“My brothers, dad and I are extremely happy for Scott and daddy, who cares day and night for my sick dad.”
