Powerful video shows gay high school teen Jordan Steffy confronting his homophobic bully

A teenager from Indiana, Jordan Steffy, has gone viral after he shared a video of himself confronting a bully who mocked him for being gay.

The gay student has endured homophobic bullying since he came out as gay in the seventh grade. The teenager – who is a junior at LaPorte High School in Indiana – finally had enough.

Jordan decided to confront one of his bullies when he found out that he had shared a photo of him on Snapchat along with a message saying he hated gays.

Gay high school teen Jordan Steffy confronted his homophobic bully over a cruel Snapchat post.

“I walked up to him and said ‘Why did you post this?’ He said it was just a post,’” Jordan told Insider.

“I said ‘Well, it’s not just a post. It’s a post about me, saying how you dislike who I am, an I don’t appreciate that.’ He went on to say ‘OK, but what are you going to do about it?’ I said ‘I’m not going to deal with this, this is the last time I’m called anything.’

“And then he said ‘What are you going to do about it, faggot?’”

The following exchange was recorded by a classmate and later shared by Jordan in a video posted to Twitter.

What are you going to do about it, faggot?

The incident led to Jordan being suspended – and his mother has since said she will take him out of the school and home school him instead as she doesn’t agree with the way it was handled.

He has been widely praised for standing up for himself.

However, the video of the fight has won Jordan praise and plaudits from LGBT+ people everywhere. Some people praised him for doing what they wished they had been able to do in school.

Meanwhile, others criticised the teacher, who appears to have been in the classroom the entire time, and only intervened at the end.

Jordan was also showered with praise from people who pointed out that fighting isn’t always the solution, but standing up for yourself is.
