The mayor of Washington DC posing with a drag queen and her pups for Halloween is a huge, huge mood
An iconic photo of the Mayor of Washington DC Muriel Bowser posing with a drag queen and her pups is doing the rounds online – and we are so here for it.
Bowser shared the photo of herself with the drag queen and the three men in pup play gear on Facebook.
“Thank you to all who came out for the 33rd annual 17th Street High Heel Race!” Mayor Bowser wrote.
“I am #DCproud to lead a city that values diversity and inclusion. A city that is home to the best queer community in the world!”
Washington DC annual High Heel Race is a hugely popular event in the city’s calendar.
Bowser – who has been Mayor of Washington DC since 2015 – was just one of the spectators at the 33rd High Heel Race. The event takes place on the Tuesday before Halloween in Washington DC every year.
The event always attracts big crowds in the city, including political figures such as Bowser.
The first ever High Heel Race took place in 1986 when two drag queens decided to run to another bar for a shot and then run back to the first bar.
Thank you to all who came out for the 33rd annual 17th Street High Heel Race!” Mayor Bowser wrote. I am #DCproud to lead a city that values diversity and inclusion. A city that is home to the best queer community in the world.
They then started doing the race every year, and with each year more and more people took part.

The race has gained so much attention over the years that a documentary was released last year about it which delved into the history of the event.
Mayor Bowser has allied herself with the LGBT+ community on a number of occasions in the past.
Mayor Bowser’s photo comes just months after 15 LGBT+ organisations in Washington DC asked for an additional $3 million in funding from the Mayor’s Office.
Speaking to the Washington Blade in July about the request for extra funding, Bowser said: “Well we think we have advanced the appropriate budget for the office.
“But certainly the office supports making sure that all D.C. government agencies are supporting the community. So their job is outreach and coordination and facilitation of policy and initiatives among all the agencies.”
However, Mayor Bowser has allied herself with the LGBT+ community on a number of occasions and supported Trans Day of Visibility this year.
