Trump is ripping off gay classic Hocus Pocus to raise funds for his impeachment battle

The original Hocus Pocus cast are yet to sign on

Is truly nothing sacred anymore? Embattled US president Donald Trump is raising money for his impeachment fight by selling ‘putrid’ posters and t-shirts spoofing the 1993 gay classic, Hocus Pocus.

But it seems the merchandise is making fans and the film’s co-screenwriter more sick than glorious mornings make Winifred Sanderson.

The Trump remake of the film’s promotional poster declares ‘Stop the Witch Hunt!’, an idiom that the American leader has consistently blasted out in all-caps on his Twitter.

While Hocus Pocus‘ treasured trio, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy, are swapped with key Democrats in the impeachment odyssey: Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi and Jerry Nadler.

The three cackle and pull contorted faces as Trump soars over the White House, wielding a perfectly ruffled US flag inside their crystal ball.

‘Just in time for Halloween’ merchandise ‘not guaranteed for delivery by Halloween’.

However, for those hoping to dress as the spookiest thing of all, Trump’s re-election campaign, the merchandise website details that it is “not guaranteed for delivery by Halloween“.

Announcing the line, the Trump campaign account tweeted: “Just in time for Halloween!”

“Send a spooky message to Pelosi, Schiff & Nadler that Trump won and they should get over it!”

‘Leave our witches alone, oh Evil One’: Fans furious at Hocus Pocus Trump merchandise.

“As one of the creators of HOCUS POCUS, I am disgusted by this putrid act of evasion,” tweeted co-screenwriter Mick Garris.

“This is the worst president in our history, and I object in every way his attempt to co-opt, no matter how poorly, our creation. Leave our witches alone, oh Evil One.”

Many Twitter users called attention to how in historical witch hunts, the witch was hunted, not doing the hunting.

Moreover, some Hocus Pocus fans were so enraged by the co-opting of their beloved film for a lawmaker’s re-election campaign they did what they had to.

Call on the head witch herself, Bette Midler, for guidance and support.

Hocus Pocus Trump merchandise is ‘appropriating’ gay culture.

Moreover, some fans, including Washington Blade White House reporter Chris Johnson, theorised that the Trump campaign are trying to give the gays everything they want.

As a result, the merchandise is an act of “cultural appropriation of the gays”:

However, the gays do not want Trump merchandise.

Instead, most want the Hocus Pocus sequel which was officially announced as in the works last week.

According to Collider, Workaholics writer Jen D’Angelo is penning the script for Hocus Pocus 2, which is in development for Disney’s new streaming service.
