Elton John has claimed that gay singer George Michael “didn’t want” to live any longer when he died of a heart attack on Christmas Day in 2016.

The Wham! singer, who came out as gay in in 1998, never sought help for his addictions, according to John who appeared on Sharon Osbourne’s TV show The Talk, reported The Independent.

John, 72, said: “He couldn’t get it, George. And he resented the fact that I had hinted that maybe he change his life a little bit and he’d be happier if he tried something else.”

He continued: “The person has actually got to want it. It’s like me in the end; I really wanted it.

“I had two alternatives: one, to die, and one to live, and I wanted to live. But that’s the difference if you want it, and poor George didn’t want it.”

Elton John says George Michael was ‘uncomfortable’ being gay.

The ‘Rocketman’ musician also added that he felt Michael’s sexuality haunted him, making him feel unhappy.

“He was so uncomfortable in his skin about being gay even though he said he wasn’t,” John explained.

Moreover, he said that Osbourne’s husband, Ozzy, phoned him following Michael’s death and expressed a similar sentiment – that Michael was despondent being who he is.

“I was in Aspen and Ozzy got on the phone, and he said, ‘He didn’t want to be here.’ And I thought that’s the most succinct, apt thing.

“He didn’t want to be here.”

Wham! star felt ‘fraudulent’ when he was hiding his sexuality.

In a 1999 interview with the Advocate, Michael explained how he had no “moral problem” with being gay and later said “that hiding his sexuality made him feel ‘fraudulent'”.

These reflections followed his arrest for public lewdness in 1998, which outed him to the public.

But after years turbulent relationships, Michael entered a relationship with Australian hairstylist Fadi Fawaz.

On Christmas Day in 2016, Fawaz found Michael’s body in his home in Goring-on-Thames.

His death rippled across the community, causing countless of fans to cancel Christmas plans to come celebrate his life – gathering outside his home to lie flowers, signed albums and framed photos.

A senior coroner in Oxfordshire later attributed Michael’s death to dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.

The condition leaves the heart’s left ventricle strained and stretched, which severely limits its ability to pump blood.

While myocarditis is the inflammation of the heart muscle.

John has, in recent months, been highly outspoken is his opinions of high-profile celebrities, from calling Lana Del Rey’s infamous Saturday Night Live performance “not terrible” to calling Madonna “ungracious and nasty”.
