New lesbian, gay and bisexual group facing immense backlash for being anti-trans… from lesbians, gays and bisexuals

Lesbians are criticising the BBC for its 'transphobic campaign'

A new “LGB Alliance” group that launched in London last night is being slammed online by the people it claims to represent.

In a tweet, lawyer Allison Bailey of Garden Court Chambers said, “This is an historic moment for the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual movement. *LGB Alliance* launched in London tonight, and we mean business. Spread the word, gender extremism is about to meet its match.”

However, lesbian, gay and bisexual people were quick to call out the new group – blasting it for being “transphobic“, “disgusting” and “vile“.

Many of them also pointed out that many members of the new group are straight, as are a lot of the people backing it online.

Several lesbians and bisexual women told the new “LGB Alliance” that “you do not speak for me“.

As a bisexual woman, I am utterly disgusted at your attacks on our trans siblings and your alliance with the religious right. You do not speak for me (or for any of the other queers I know – we’re all equally repulsed by your ideas).

You people are obsessed, and should be ashamed of yourselves. “Gender critical,” what a joke. Your “criticism” of gender lands you squarely on the same side as the religious right, which should tell you all you need to know about what it’s worth. Signed, a cis lesbian.

And they weren’t the only people from the community that the new group purports to represent to distance themselves.

Bisexual and gay men also criticised the “LGB Alliance” for being anti-trans.

There is no LGB movement. Not one that doesn’t stand side by side with trans people. Speaking as a bisexual guy, no less is acceptable, and you definitely don’t speak for me.

Judging by the comments, it seems you’ve met *your* match.

There is no gender extremism and this transphobic alliance is going to harm us all in the end; trans people disproportionately.

If you want to lick bigoted boots, do so with a different name. This bisexual disavows you.

— Bae Grylls, Tumblr Bisexual (Esq.) (@TheAuracl3) October 23, 2019

You can’t be pro-LGB if you’re anti-T. We are one, together. No ‘LGB Alliance’ will speak for me or any of my friends or colleagues. #GwiththeT https://t.co/pcSw086f8M

i’m a gay man and i stand with our trans brothers & sisters and NB siblings. you don’t speak for me, you don’t have my support, goodbye

— Simon (@some_beans) October 23, 2019

And multiple people pointed out that the new “LGB” group seems to consist of a surprising number of straight people.

#LGBAlliance

Mini-thread.
This stems from transphobic groups trying to undermine stonewalls trans support.
Here are the signatories to a previous petition

Less than half are lgbt, and its only a handful.

The rest are cishet who have links to other transphobic groups

LGB Alliance of mostly cis-hets. ?

Transphobes are ridiculous.

— Izzy Rizinti ?️‍? (@BellaRizinti) October 23, 2019

Straight people who insist that they’re LGB – but not T – allies, are our oppressors. Misogyny and gender conformity is the root of homophobia and transphobia. I don’t want their “allyship” and the vast majority of LGBTIQ+ people I know don’t either. Get in the sea #LGBAlliance

— Peter McGuire (@PeterMcGuireIE) October 23, 2019

How is every _single_ one of the people supporting it like “I’m straight, but I support this initiative”. They don’t seem to have any LGB people who want anything to do with it ?

— Jack Preston (@unwttng) October 23, 2019

Which was also indicated by the number of self-professed “straight allies” replying to Bailey’s original tweet announcing the “LGB Alliance”.

This straight woman is cheering you on.

Congratulations all, I’m not LGB but am so concerned about blurring sexuality and gender identity. I hope you can feel free to advocate for young gay and lesbian people who can be gender non-conforming without needing to be the opposite sex. No-one is born in the wrong body.

I’m not L G orB but I’m fully in support of this pic.twitter.com/45btLOnKyV
