Daniel Craig and Rami Malek kissed on set of new James Bond movie No Time to Die

No Time To Die: Daniel Craig and Rami Malek shared steamy kiss on set

Things can get complicated on a film set. Emotions can run high and people can do things that are out of character.

That might explain how Daniel Craig and Rami Malek came to share a kiss on the set of the new James Bond film No Time to Die recently.

The kiss was not part of the film’s story, but happened during rehearsals, Malek has revealed during an interview with Stephen Colbert.

During his appearance yesterday on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Malek said that Craig is his “favourite” James Bond actor, and spoke about a particularly challenging scene they worked on together.

Rami Malek: ‘A kiss transpired between the two of us.’

“We had a scene that was a very complicated scene and we were rehearsing for it with our terrific director,” Malek said.

“We were sitting at a table over hours just batting about ideas, back and forth, and we finally cracked this really challenging scene.

“And he grabbed me, picked me up – and I can’t tell who initiated the next moment, whether it was him or I – but a kiss transpired between the two of us. I’m going to say that Daniel initiated it, and I was very taken aback.”

Stephen Colbert asked Malek if the kiss was welcome.

“Yes, very much so,” Malek continued.

“And I took a moment, caught my breath, looked down and said, ‘So, does this make me a Bond girl?’”

I can’t tell who initiated the next moment, whether it was him or I – but a kiss transpired between the two of us.

The kiss between the actors may come as a surprise to some as they are both heterosexual and are both in relationships with women.

During the interview, Malek also spoke about the experience of playing Freddie Mercury in last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

“It was one of the greatest challenges of my life, and absolutely one of the most rewarding as well,” he told Colbert.

He also revealed that he is still in touch with Queen band members since they wrapped filming.

The film was criticised by some for not delving deep enough into Mercury’s relationships with men.

Bohemian Rhapsody was a huge success at the box office and won Malek an Academy Award, however the film did not pass by without its share of controversy.

Director Bryan Singer was fired from his position as director of the film before filming wrapped. He has been accused of sexual abuse by a number of people.

The film was also criticised by some who said it did not delve into Mercury’s sexuality.

In an interview last year with Australia’s WHO Magazine, Malek said he wished the film had delved “deeper” into Mercury’s relationships with men.

“I just kept pushing for more of that aspect of his life… I don’t know if we ever felt fulfilled by it.”
