Lady Gaga says she’s calling her next album ‘Adele’ and the internet has gone into meltdown

Adele and Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga tweeted that her long-awaited sixth album will be called Adele, and fans can’t work out whether she’s being serious or just trolling in the deep.

Three years after the release of Lady Gaga’s stripped back and personal Joanne, the singer has hinted that her next effort will take her in an entirely new direction.

“I’m calling my next album ADELE,” she tweeted on Tuesday, October 1, leaving fans excited, confused and, well, speechless.

The reaction could largely be summed up as this.

Some were already looking forward to the inevitable Adele Ball.

While others wondered what the ‘Someone Like You’ singer made of it all.

Actor Ethan Harvey wondered if Lady Gaga had an ulterior motive, noting that her tweet came hot on the heels of rumours linking Adele with grime MC Skepta.

But for many, comedian Phillip Henry said it best.

Lady Gaga teases sixth album

This isn’t the first time that Gaga fans have been whipped into a frenzy by their Mother Monster’s cryptic tweets.

In late August, Gaga tweeted the letter “f” without any further explanation, which music-starved fans took as a sign that new material was on its way.

Gaga has been working on her sixth album since earlier this year, announcing in March that she is “pregnant with #LG6.”

Though she hasn’t released a new studio album since 2016, the singer has kept herself busy with an Oscar-winning turn in A Star Is Born and her dual Las Vegas residencies, which resume later this month.

In September she launched a new make-up line, Haus Laboratories, and revealed that the “power of glam” had saved her from a breakdown during her last world tour.
