Frozen 3 will reportedly introduce a girlfriend for Elsa

Elsa from Frozen

While it was already confirmed that Frozen 2 will not give Queen Elsa a love interest, rumours suggest that the LGBT+ icon may finally get a girlfriend in the third instalment of the franchise.

Elsa’s LGBT+ fanbase were disappointed when rumours of the ice queen having a girlfriend in Frozen 2 were quashed by a Disney songwriter last month.

Kristen Anderson-Lopez told IGN: “Like the first movie, Elsa is not just defined by a romantic interest.

“There’s so many movies that define a woman by her romantic interest. That’s not a story that we wanted to tell at this point in time.”

But now, entertainment site We Got This Covered has reported that according to mystery sources: “The intention is for Elsa to have a girlfriend in the threequel, confirming her sexuality in the process.”

The gap between the first and second films was six years long, so fans might have to wait a while for Frozen 3.

According to the source that spoke to We Got This Covered, Disney wanted to introduce a love interest for Elsa in the sequel but were worried that the film would be banned in some countries.

Fans have been campaigning for Disney to give Elsa a girlfriend since the release of Frozen in 2013, and many in the LGBT+ community saw ‘Let It Go’ as a coming out anthem.

While there was a lot of excitement surrounding rumours of a lesbian Elsa in the Frozen 2, fans are not getting their hopes up yet for Frozen 3.

One person wrote on Twitter: “I can’t believe I ran across an article claiming there’ll be a Frozen 3 and Elsa will finally be a lesbian.

“Really!? I mean, as cool as that *would be* – the 2nd one hasn’t even hit theatres yet!”

Another wrote: “The same thing was said for Frozen 2 and yet… no gay Elsa… Disney hasn’t even begun thinking of a third Frozen film.”
