Lil Nas X says he wouldn’t have come out if he was still living with his parents

Lil Nas X has revealed that he was terrified of coming out to his dad.

The ‘Old Town Road’ singer spoke to Billboard about his experience of coming out publicly during June’s Pride Month.

He had confirmed his sexuality in a low-key tweet, writing: “some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure. ??✨”

The track includes the lyric: “Ain’t no more actin’, man, that forecast say I should just let me grow/No more red light for me, baby, only green, I gotta go.”

Lil Nas X: I wanted to rip the band-aid off.

Lil Nas X explained of the decision to come out via tweet: “Just like, rip the Band-Aid off.”

He added that it was was “nerve-wracking” to come out to his father earlier in June, explaining: “It’s something I never probably would have did if I was still living with my parents.

“I have that independence to do it, you know?”

The announcement was not universally welcomed, with rapper Young Thug saying that Lil Nas X should not have publicly come out.

In an interview for No Jumper, Young Thug said: “I feel like he probably shouldn’t have told the world. He shouldn’t have told the world.

“These days, motherf*****s, it’s just all judgment. Motherf*****s is just judging. It ain’t even about the music no more.

“Once you found out he was gay, as soon as the song come on now, everybody like, ‘This gay-ass n****.’

“N****s don’t even care to listen to the song no more… It’s just like, to certain people, you know what I’m saying?”

Kevin Hart also repeatedly interrupted Lil Nax X during a conversation about his sexuality on HBO’s The Shop: Uninterrupted.

The comic was accused of gaslighting Lil Nas X after he questioned why a black man might find it difficult to come out as gay.

However, Lil Nas X later told Hoodrich Radio: “No, I’m not mad at Kevin Hart. A lot of situations are like that, I don’t try and get into these situations because online I’m just here to be funny and laugh.

“So I’m not trying to put nothing, I’m not trying to say anything, because you say anything, your words get twisted, and then you’ve got to say something about that, and it’s just on and on… so no, I’m not mad at Kevin Hart.”
