Straight woman’s rainbow luggage tag defaced with word ‘sodomite’ by baggage handler

A heterosexual woman has spoken out after having a rainbow tag on her hold luggage defaced with the term “sodomite”.

Renee Gerrish was left shocked after a rainbow tag on her luggage was defaced while it was allegedly in the care of staff at Delta Air Lines.

After reclaiming her baggage, Gerrish discovered that the word “sodomite” had been written across her baggage label.

Straight woman takes to Twitter to stand in solidarity with LGBT+ community.

She took to Twitter to vent her fury over the incident.

“Someone at Delta Air Lines baggage handling took it upon themselves to write ‘sodomite’ on my ? luggage tag,” she wrote.

“Bigotry, hate speech and destruction of personal property while in @Delta airline’s care.

“I want this shared and on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community- I will not go quietly.”

Her post has been liked more than 3,500 times and re-tweeted by over 2,400 users at the time of publication.

Gerrish also got in touch with Delta’s customer support team over the graffiti.

“As a hetero woman, I can only know my hurt, anger, and disappointment… PALE in comparison to what the LGBTQ+ community experiences on a daily basis,” Gerrish reportedly wrote to the airline’s customer support.

Gerrish was on a flight from Boston to Atlanta when the incident occurred, reports LGBTQ Nation.

This isn’t the first time that Delta Airlines has come under fire with accusations that its staff have mistreated the LGBT+ community.

In January, a queer deaf couple claimed they were refused on board to a Delta flight after a staff member refused to communicate with them.

PinkNews has contacted Gerrish and Delta Air Lines for comment.

However, the airline has also made steps to support those in the LGBT+ community.

In March, it became first major US airline to introduce non-binary options on its booking forms.
