Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson’s relationship is the stuff of couple goals, and now the model has revealed what made them go public.

Delevingne confirmed her relationship with the Pretty Little Liars actress in an Instagram post during Pride month, June 2019, after more than a year of dating.

While the fact that they were together was no secret – the pair were famously photographed carrying a sex bench into their West Hollywood home back in May – both women had remained tight-lipped, save for a few social media teases.

Speaking to Elle, Delevingne said that she had been hesitant to talk about her love life “because it’s sacred”.

“I get why people care so much, and I don’t want to be so secretive that people think I’m ashamed of anything,” she said in an interview for the magazine’s October issue.

“But I’ve never been in a relationship where things are so public, or where I posted pictures of someone else. This seemed different.

“We had gotten to the point where we had kept it a secret, or at least not wanted attention, and now I feel like I’m not going to not be proud.”

Shortly after making their relationship public, Delevingne paid tribute to her girlfriend while accepting an award at the TrevorLIVE New York Gala on June 17.

She paid tribute to a “very special woman” who she said “helped me love myself when I need it most and I really needed it”.

Delevingne added: “She showed me what real love is and showed me how to accept it, which was a lot harder than I thought. I love you, Sprinkles.”

I’m just better when I’m in love.

Speaking to Elle, the Brit explained how love has changed her.

“I’m just better when I’m in love,” she said.

“That doesn’t have to mean with someone. It can also mean with myself. It just feels incredible when you’re not alone, when you’re facing the world with someone else.”
