Brazilian ambassador aims thinly-veiled ‘homophobia’ at Emmanuel Macron in scathing attack
Brazil’s ambassador for tourism has threatened to grab French president Emmanuel Macron by the neck and claimed in a ‘homophobic’ jibe that he has seen “plenty of gay men” who are more “manly” than him.
The comments are the latest in a widening diplomatic rift between the French and Brazilian governments over fires in the Amazon rainforest.
In a video circulated on social media, tourism ambassador Renzo Gracie claimed Macron was “talking rubbish” about his country.
“The only fire going on is the fire inside Brazilian hearts and our president’s heart, you clown,” he said, according to The Independent.
“Come over here you’ll be caught by the neck, that chicken neck. You don’t fool me.”

In a later interview with Brazilian publication UOL, Gracie made a ‘homophobic’ dig at the French president.
“This gang of clowns only open their mouths to speak ill of our country,” Gracie said, as translated by The Independent.

The Amazon fires received global attention after NASA confirmed the findings of Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research, which had been monitoring the situation, with Macron describing them as an “international crises”.
French and Brazilian governments in war of words over Amazon fires.
The French president also said he would refuse to ratify the EU–Mercosur Free Trade Agreement unless the Brazilian government committed to protecting the environment.
The war of words escalated after Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro mocked Macron’s wife, with the French leader saying the comments were “extraordinarily disrespectful”.
Bolsonaro himself has declared himself a ‘proud homophobe’ and even told Playboy that he would “be incapable of loving a gay son” in a 2007 interview.
In August, he was criticised after slashing funding for LGBT+ films and screenplays.
Last year, the Brazilian president claimed he does not have anything against LGBT+ people when they are adults, but added that he still opposes children being taught about the LGBT+ community.
