Fox & Friends rips into Taylor Swift over vehement support of LGBT+ rights
A commentator on Fox & Friends has hit out at Taylor Swift, accusing her of “virtue signalling” over her public call for an LGBT+ non-discrimination law.
The Fox News programme, believed to be Donald Trump’s favourite TV show, took aim at Swift on Tuesday, August 27, after she used her platform at the MTV Video Music Awards to call for the passage of the Equality Act.
Fox & Friends pundit: Taylor Swift is ‘virtue signalling without substance’.
Pundit Allie Beth said: “It’s really unfortunate… people especially like Taylor Swift, the beauty of them, the charm of them, is that they were politically neutral, at least that’s true for Taylor Swift.
“And now she’s kind of waded into these political waters, and it doesn’t seem like they really know what they’re talking about, and they’re not convincing anyone in the middle of the country, or anyone who disagrees with them, because they don’t actually have any kind of a viable argument.
“They like to get out there, and to use the buzz phrase that we use a lot, virtue signal, without too much substance to their argument.”
Beth also hit out at Glow actress Alison Brie for condemning the treatment of immigrants in a speech.
Despite the pundit’s claim that there is no “substance” to Taylor Swift’s beliefs, the singer has set out her support for the Equality Act at length.
Taylor Swift: Lack of Equality Act means LGBT+ people live in fear of discrimination.
In a petition that attracted half a million signatures, she explained that the law would extend existing Civil Rights Act provisions to also “protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in their places of work, homes, schools, and other public accommodations”.
Swift added: “Our country’s lack of protection for its own citizens ensures that LGBTQ people must live in fear that their lives could be turned upside down by an employer or landlord who is homophobic or transphobic.

“The fact that, legally, some people are completely at the mercy of the hatred and bigotry of others is disgusting and unacceptable.
“Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally.”

The Trump administration, which is opposed to the Equality Act, has rejected Swift’s call for passage of the law.
White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere told CNN: “The Trump administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all; however, the House-passed bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights.”
