More details revealed about Neighbours’ first trans character and storyline

Georgie Stone Neighbours

More details have been released about the first ever trans character on Australian soap Neighbours.

The guest role of Mackenzie Hargreaves, played by trans actress Georgie Stone, is set to be introduced next week.

Stone’s character will befriend Yashvi Rebecchi (Olivia Junkeer) when she joins Erinsborough High, according to Digital Spy.

Neighbours‘ first trans character Mackenzie will befriend Yashvi.

But, after the pair become friends, Yashvi suspects she has previously met Mackenzie in the town of Bourke, where she used to live.

Mackenzie initially denies that the two met in Bourke and a complex storyline involving Yashvi’s father Shane ensues.

However, Mackenzie eventually reveals that they knew each other at primary school before her transition.

Still, Yashvi fully accepts Mackenzie for who she is and the two stay friends.

It was revealed in March that Stone, who is also an advocate for gender diverse youth, would take on the role in the soap.

Stone, 19, originally pitched the idea for having a trans character to producers.

The actress, who previously starred in the ABC Me series Advice to My 12-Year-Old-Self, spent eight months working with producers to “accurately integrate parts of her life story” into her character.

“I am so excited to join Neighbours,” says trans actress Georgie Stone.

Stone previously discussed her guest appearance in the show when the news was announced in March.

“I am so excited to be joining such an iconic show,” Stone said at the time.

“It has progressed so much since it first began, which is why I thought it was time to have a trans character on the show. I can’t wait for everyone to meet her!”

Executive producer Jason Herbison said in March: “Georgie approached us last year regarding a guest role and I could see she was passionate about acting.

“She also put forward a thought-provoking and important storyline idea.

“Seeing her talent during the audition process, I knew she would be able to tell the story truthfully and authentically, she is an exceptional young woman.”
