Gay of Thrones returned for a one-off Emmy special, with Jonathan Van Ness finally meeting his idol Lena Headey.
One of the worst things about Game of Throne’s final season – questionable plot twists aside – was that it marked the end of Jonathan Van Ness’ web series, Gay of Thrones.
Since 2013, the Queer Eye star has recapped every episode of Game of Thrones from behind his salon chair, spawning a legion of memes and some pretty memorable nicknames.
Now, three months after Gay and Games came to a close, Van Ness has returned for a special episode with “Blonde Cher” herself, Cersei Lannister actor Lena Headey.
The pair FaceTimed to discuss both shows’ Emmy nominations (Game of Thrones received a record-breaking 32 nods, while Gay of Thrones is up for a single award).
“You’re basically the Beyoncé of the Emmys, if Beyoncé hadn’t done Homecoming on Netflix,” Van Ness told Headey.
“Queen do you even get nervous or are you channeling Blonde Cher and keeping your cool honey?”
Headey (or was that Vintage Mia Farrow?) told Van Ness that she wished she had Cher’s ‘Strong Enough’-era confidence, confessing: “I genuinely, hand on heart just s*** myself.”
Lena Headey’s Cersei Lannister nominated for best supporting actress at the Emmys.
As Van Ness reminded us, Heady is nominated for best supporting actress in a drama, “squaring off against Baby Kill Bill (Maisie Williams/Arya Stark), Sansa Fierce (Sophie Turner/Sansa Stark) and Tilda (Gwendoline Christie/Brienne of Tarth)”.
“My gorgeous Evil No Volume Carol Brady will stop at nothing to secure this podium, so what’s she gonna do?” Van Ness asked Headey.
She replied: “Are you suggesting I would murder to get an Emmy? If that worked I’d have done it every year.”

Heady also revealed that the Game of Thrones cast have their own special nickname for Van Ness.
“You, Maester Yoga, have been nominated enough yourself.
“We all think it’s your year honey. Mind you, we thought that last year too.”
Gay of Thrones and Game of Thrones up for Emmys.
Gay of Thrones is hoping to win its first Emmy for outstanding short form variety series. The series was nominated in the same category in 2018 and 2016.
As well as its best supporting actress nods, Game of Thrones is also up for best supporting actor (Alfie Allen/Theon Greyjoy, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau/Jaime Lannister, Peter Dinklage/Tyrion Lannister).
Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) have been nominated in the lead actor categories, while the show is also in the running to win its fourth best drama award.
