This guy’s date made an odd request and it’ll make you want to stay single

There’s nothing like that feeling of going on a good first date.

You get that light, airy feeling afterwards, and you can’t stop thinking about seeing them again – until you receive a creepy message that ruins it all.

That’s what happened to Eric Dimitratos, who is head of digital at MTV. He shared a screenshot of a horrifying exchange he had with a guy after they went on a first date.

In the iMessage exchange, the guy asks Eric to turn on read receipts so that he will always know when his messages have been read..

Eric’s response echoes that of most Twitter users. He simply replied: “What?!”

‘I just physically recoiled.’

Eric tweeted a screenshot of the message with the caption: “Goes on first date, scared he’ll ghost but instead gets this text.” Since he posted the image just two days ago, it has been liked or retweeted more than 20,000 times.

Twitter users were horrified by the request. One retweeted it and wrote: “I just physically recoiled.”

Another rightly pointed out that the exchange was a red flag.

This is the part of the crime documentary where the steely narrator intones something very ominous, and we cut to commercial.

Somebody else added: “I have on read receipts for everybody. I’m OK with people knowing when I’m ignoring them.”

Another simply added: “The call is coming from inside the house.”

The bizarre exchange has been called a ‘red flag’ by Twitter users.

One user said: “If someone I’d been on one date with did that, I would turn on read receipts, tell them so, read their acknowledgment, and then ghost them forever.”

Another said: “This is the part of the crime documentary where the steely narrator intones something very ominous, and we cut to commercial.”

Eric has shared some of his past dating experiences on Twitter too, and this isn’t the first unfortunate experience he has had.

Last week, he posted: “My date last night smiled at me and said, ‘I’ll be looking for your tweet about how awful this experience was.’”

Since the tweet went viral, Eric has joked that he may never get a date again.
