Mylinda Mason says it’s her son’s fault they have a poor relationship
The organiser of a Straight Pride parade has hit back at her estranged gay son, claiming it is “typical” of gay people to “pull away” from their family.
Matthew Mason has vowed to resist his mother Mylinda Mason’s Straight Pride rally, which is set to take place in Modesto, California, on August 24.
In an interview with the Modesto Bee, he said: “I am making sure Modesto is not a place for hate speech…. they believe Western Civilisation should be straight, white and Christian with a very specific gender binary.
“They believe this should be a culture war. It’s rhetoric I’ve heard my whole life.”

Speaking to NBC, his mother Mylinda Mason claimed that it is “very typical” for “homosexuals in general pull away from family and friends at some point.”
Mason admitted that she had taken her son to protests against LGBT+ people as a teen, when he was struggling with his own sexuality.
She admitted she “could see the struggle on my son’s face,” but blamed his sexuality for their poor relationship.

Mason added: “All I can say about my son is that I have read a lot of the word ‘hate’ out there and I do not hate my son, I do not like my son, I do not love my son, I adore my son — and I want my son in heaven ultimately with me one day. And so I will remain firm on standing what I believe are biblical family values.”
Speaking about her event, she added: “I think that the word ‘pride’ has been stolen, if you will, or hijacked by the evil one, and I want to say that we are taking pride in our God almighty, in our creator, and in his order.”
She added that the event is a celebration of “heterosexuality, masculinity, femininity, babies born and unborn, Western civilization, our wonderful country, and Christianity.”
Gay son of anti-LGBT activist came out at 19
Matthew Mason previously explained that he was rejected by his family when he came out as gay at 19, and has been estranged from his mother for several years.
He said: “I am in a unique place to call her out for where she’s coming from, which is white supremacy, and I did not feel like I had the right to stay silent.
“Mylinda constantly talks about revisionist history, but really her style of history is the one that’s revisionist.
“The genocide of the indigenous population of North America was not ever covered in our home-schooling.
“I learned about ‘the white men that built the world,’ to quote Mylinda, but as I got older and I got a little more aware of history, I realised that these white men who built the world built it on the backs of people of color, of slaves, and through genocide.”
Mylinda Mason denies being a white supremacist.
