After leading the US women’s football team to World Cup victory last month, Megan Rapinoe’s success is continuing with two book deals with Penguin Press.

The co-captain of the United States Women’s National Team is set to write one book about her life on and off the pitch, and another for children about “the power young people have within their own communities and the world at large.”

Penguin told NBC that the adult’s book will be published in Autumn 2020.

It will be a “perfect vehicle” for an “honest, thoughtful, unapologetic” take on everything from soccer to nationalism to gay rights.

I hope this book will inspire people to find what they can do, and in turn inspire other people around them to do the same

Rapinoe’s activism made headlines this summer after she clashed with Donald Trump for telling a reporter: “I’m not going to the f**king White House.”

In response, Trump tweeted: “Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”

He added: “Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!”

Rapinoe promptly led the women’s team to victory in the World Cup. The whole team stood by her claim of refusing to meet the President.

Addressing the President directly in a CNN interview after the win, Rapinoe said: “Your message is excluding people. You’re excluding me, you’re excluding people that look like me, you’re excluding people of colour, you’re excluding Americans that maybe support you.”

Penguin Press editor-in-chief Ann Godoff told The New York Times she sought a deal with the lesbian football star because “Megan has a different platform.”

“I thought, ‘Here’s a woman who is comfortable in her own skin,'” she said. “She’s just operating from this very honest and straightforward and ‘This is who I am’ place. I think that’s what many people aspire to.”

In an email, Rapinoe said she is excited to share her story with readers.

“I hope this book will inspire people to find what they can do, and in turn inspire other people around them to do the same,” she told the New York Times.
