Louis Tomlinson brands One Direction gay sex rumours ‘venom’

Louis Tomlinson has slammed a British newspaper for claiming that One Direction’s split was in part caused by gay sex rumours, and called the speculation “unprovoked venom.”

The article was published in The Mirror with the headline: “Drugs, meltdowns and ‘gay sex’ rumours – how ‘rivalry and hatred’ tore One Direction apart.”

However, former One Direction member Tomlinson took issue with the article. Writing on Twitter, he branded it the “biggest load of bulls**t.”

“Typical unprovoked venom from The Mirror. Couldn’t be further from the truth,” he continued.

The article claimed that fan-fiction depicting Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles as lovers pushed them apart

The lengthy article makes various claims about what caused One Direction to split – one of them being that “Larry Stylinson” fan-fiction depicting Tomlinson and Harry Styles as lovers pushed them apart.

The article claims that Tomlinson was “extremely sensitive” about the fan-fiction and speculation and said that it “created an atmosphere.”

However, Tomlinson has firmly rejected the claims. One fan responded to his tweet and said the article was trying to “rile fans up.” Tomlinson responded: “I know tragic isn’t it! Anyway said my piece moving on.”

The furore comes just weeks after an episode of HBO teen drama Euphoria caused controversy when it depicted Tomlinson and Styles having sex.

The episode, titled “Made You Look,” depicted the men giving oral sex and having sex backstage at a concert. The imagined scene is narrated by actress and singer Zendaya.

One Direction fans slammed the show online for not getting permission from Tomlinson or Styles before making the scene.

Tomlinson responded to one fan at the time and said: “I can categorically say that I was not contacted nor did I approve it.”

One of Euphoria‘s actors Barbie Ferreira explained why the storyline was important to her

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, one of Euphoria‘s starring actors Barbie Ferreira said she was a huge fan of One Direction and explained why the Louis-Harry ship storyline meant so much to her.

“When I first read the script, that was the first thing that popped out to me, because I can relate to that as a 22-year-old woman who lived through the One Direction age,” she said.

“It’s such a reality for so many people, and so many children and teens that are fans just have this escapist world. You completely give yourself to this persona of a person you don’t even know, or five guys, and imaging the way they interact the escaping from your own reality.

“It’s really interesting to me because I was definitely a part of that, where I wanted to escape my own life and focus on others because it was easier and felt more meaningful.”
