Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got on stage at a drag show and the crowd went wild

US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gets noticed partying in the audience at a New York City drag show in McKittrick Hotel last Friday (July 5).

The Bartschland Follies is a drag and burlesque show produced by Susanne Bartsch. Performer, Joey Arias, pulled the politician on stage and asked her to say a few words.

And the crowd went wild.

Be who you are. You are beautiful. You are accepted.

Ocasio-Cortez left the stage to a huge round of applause and the audience chanting her name. Drag and cabaret performer Joey Arias posted on Instagram:

After being asked about how it was like meeting Alexandria, Murray Hill told NBC News: “She reignited the fire that’s burning in all of us.

“She stayed and watched the entire show starring New York’s finest misfits, nightlife creatures, rabble-rousers, queer icons.”

Working with the LGBT community

Ocasio-Cortez has been an LGBT+ supporter since she started being a congresswoman.

In June, Alexandria endorsed a campaign run by Queer Latina woman Tiffany Cabán in Queens. The campaign helped fight for sex worker rights and making this line of work legal.

Ocasio-Cortez’s endorsement helped push the campaign to centre stage and give a better chance of making sex work legal.
