PinkNews Awards 2019: Role Model Award nominees revealed

PinkNews is delighted to confirm the outstanding individuals who have been nominated for the first-ever Role Model Award at the PinkNews Awards 2019.

The Role Model Award will recognise one person who has made an indelible difference in the fight for LGBT+ equality around the world in the last year. The award is open to role models ranging from activists, politicians, entertainers and more.

The nominees for this prestigious award include Andrew Moffatt, the Birmingham primary school teacher whose No Outsiders programme has gained much attention in recent months, Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Mike Hill, the co-chair of the Royal Navy’s LGBT+ network Compass, and Paul Martin, the chief executive of LGBT Foundation.

The nominees were announced by Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry at PinkNews’ Westminster summer reception in London on Thursday (July 4).

The nominees for the Role Model Award are:

  • Lee Ranson, Eversheds Sutherland
  • Marcel Varney, Barnardo’s

  • Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Mike Hill, Royal Navy
  • Paul Martin, LGBT Foundation
  • Sue Vincent Jones, Welsh Government
  • Soony Tang, Simmons & Simmons

The winner will be announced at the seventh annual PinkNews Awards in London on October 16.
