Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) player Sue Bird has slammed US President Donald Trump for his treatment of her girlfriend, US soccer star Megan Rapinoe.

Trump lashed out at Rapinoe on Twitter last week (June 26) when video footage emerged of her saying she would not go to the White House if the US team won the World Cup.

Bird wrote a piece for The Players Tribune titled “So the President f****** hates my girlfriend,” in which she described how her initial reaction to Trump’s comments was to “freak out.”

She added, “Dude — there’s nothing better demanding your attention??” responding to Trump’s tweets.

Venting on Twitter, the president said: “Women’s soccer player, @mPinoe, just stated that she is ‘not going to the F…ing White House if we win… Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!

“Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”

“It would be ridiculous to the point of laughter, if it wasn’t so gross. (And if his legislations and policies weren’t ruining the lives of so many innocent people.)” Bird said in her post.

“What’s legitimately scary, I guess, is like….. how it’s not just his tweets.

“Because now suddenly you’ve got all these MAGA peeps getting hostile in your mentions.

“And you’ve got all these crazy blogs writing terrible things about this person you care so much about… It’s like an out-of-body experience, really.”

Sue Bird on Megan Rapinoe: “You cannot shake that girl”

Bird focused on Rapinoe’s bravery and strength, and said that her partner “shrugged off the Rude Man on Twitter.”

“You just cannot shake that girl,” Bird said.

“She’s going to do her thing, at her own damn speed, to her own damn rhythm, and she’s going to apologise to exactly NO ONE for it.

“So when all the Trump business started to go down last week, I mean — the fact that Megan just seemed completely unfazed?

“It’s strange to say, but that was probably the only normal thing about it.”

The USA women’s soccer team has made it through to the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, beating England in a semi-final game on Tuesday (July 2).
