Starbucks unveils rainbow coloured cup for Pride month

Starbucks is releasing a brand new rainbow coloured reusable cup in the United States and Canada to celebrate Pride month.

The cup hit shelves this week and is retailing at $16.95, with the coffee chain saying it will celebrate “pride, kindness, love, and diversity.”

The cup—which also features the word “Love”—will be “just the beginning of Starbucks support of the 50th anniversary of Pride month,” the outlet said.

Starbucks is committed to ‘a culture of belonging, inclusion and diversity’

Starbucks said that they are committed to advocating for the LGBT+ community and said they strive to create “a culture of belonging, inclusion and diversity” in their stores.

“In addition to health benefits for partners in LGBTQ relationship, the company has also supported partners who are transgender or considering transitioning, and even broadened health care coverage to include gender reassignment surgery.”

The new Pride cups are getting a huge reaction on social media. One Twitter user said: “At Starbucks today me and the barista got really excited over the new pride cups together and started chanting “gay cups, gay cups, gay cups” in a whisper at the checkout counter… Long story short I’m in love with the barista.”

Starbucks covers costs of medical transition for transgender employees

Starbucks has made a name for itself as an inclusive employer for LGBT+ people. Last year, the coffee chain announced that they would be funding comprehensive care for transgender employees.

In the announcement, they said that they would be covering various procedures as a part of the medical transition process.

A number of major brands are releasing limited edition goods in the lead up to Pride this year to celebrate the event’s 50th anniversary.

Last week, Adidas announced that it is releasing limited edition versions of some of its most popular trainers to mark Pride month.

The redesigned shoes feature the rainbow colours and are expected to land with retailers from June 1.
