Televangelist Pat Robertson predicts ‘atomic war’ if Equality Act passes

American televangelist Pat Robertson has said he expects the United States to be engulfed by an “atomic war” if the Equality Act passes.

The act—which seeks to strengthen the rights of LGBT+ people—has been heavily criticised by a number of right-wing and religious commentators in recent months.

Speaking on his show, The 700 Club, Robertson said viewers should contact their representatives and ask them to vote against the Equality Act.

Pat Robertson said the Equality Act is ‘a devastating blow to religious freedom’

“They always give good names to these things,” Robertson said of the act.

“This is a devastating blow to religious freedom and to the sanctity of America. If you want to bring the judgement of God on this nation, you keep this stuff up,” he continued.

“I was reading in Leviticus where it said because of these things the land will vomit you out. Vomit you out. I think God will say, ‘I’ve had it with America, if you do this kind of stuff I’m going to get rid of you as a nation.’”

“There’s plenty of stuff that’s going on. When you look at the potential of atomic war, when you look at the solar strike, something where they can go down the line of devastation that could happen to our nation.

“We don’t want that. We want the blessing of God.”

Pat Robertson previously said people would ‘perish’ if the Equality Act is passed

Robertson has made headlines on numerous occasions in the past for his bizarre comments about God’s supposed destruction of the world.

In March, he also spoke out against the act, saying that people would “perish” if it passes.

He said: “If you read the book of Romans, you find a time when the Bible says, ‘God gave them up to unclean passions.’

“Women lusting for women, and men lusting for men like women… and that’s what’s happening now.”

He added: “When you figure one percent max of the nation are lesbians and maybe two percent max are homosexuals, and now they’ve got this whole thing about gender transition, where little boys decide they want to be girls.

“They want men to go into women’s bathrooms and women’s locker rooms… the whole thing is chaotic.”

Robertson added: “The Bible says, when there is no vision of God, the people perish, and we have gone to the point where God will give us up.

Robertson said gay people were willing to destroy society to protect ‘their weird way of doing sex’

“We’re threatened by nuclear attacks from Iran and North Korea, cyberattacks from China and Russia… the whole world wants to destroy America and it cannot succeed if the American people will hold onto their faith in God.

In February, Robertson claimed that gay people are willing to destroy society to protect “their weird way of doing sex.”

Robertson said: “The incredible thing about the homosexuals is they are willing to destroy lives and destroy the whole fabric of society so long as they and their weird way of doing sex is legitimised.”

If the Equality Act is passed, it will extend existing civil rights laws federally to cover discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
