Harry Styles channels his best camp self in Met Gala pink carpet look

As a co-chair of this year’s camp-themed Met Gala, Harry Styles did not disappoint as he walked the pink carpet with a perfect look.

The former One Direction singer was channeling his best camp self from head to toe, from his single pearl drop earring in his right ear to shiny black heeled boots.

Styles rocked a tailored Gucci jumpsuit comprised of a black sheer top with a cascading lace collar and high-waisted trousers. His nails were painted black and turquoise and he sported several rings on his fingers, including two bearing his initials, H.S.

“I think everyone was expecting Harry to be in sequins, bright colours and a crown, but we decided on a different type of ‘camp’ that hopefully would surprise,” Harry Lambert, who’s been styling Styles since his One Direction days, told Miss Vogue, explaining the star’s look.

“The look, I feel, is elegant. It’s camp, but still Harry.”

Lambert continued: “After such a colourful tour wardrobe it is nice to do something a little unexpected. This look is about taking traditionally feminine elements like the frills, heeled boots, sheer fabric and the pearl earring, but then rephrasing them as masculine pieces set against the high-waisted tailored trousers and his tattoos. The look, I feel, is elegant. It’s camp, but still Harry.”

Harry Styles arrives at Met Gala with Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele

Styles, who can be heard greeting Met Gala attendees with a “guys, gals and non-binary pals,” in an Instagram live shared by Pose star Indya Moore, walked down the pink carpet with co-chair Alessandro Michele, Gucci creative director, who also looked stunning in a shiny pink 70s-inspired ensemble.

Michele has also worked closely with Styles, the face of Gucci’s 2018 pre-fall advertising campaign and the proud owner of the iconic Gucci rainbow loafers the singer donated to a raffle raising money for the UK’s oldest LGBT+ charity, London Friend, in July.

Along with Michele and Styles, Lady Gaga and Serena Williams joined Vogue editor Anna Wintour in chairing the annual event—traditionally held on the first Monday of May, in support of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

This year’s theme was inspired by  “Camp: Notes on Fashion”—a reference to American author’s Susan Sontag’s 58-page essay Notes on ‘Camp,’ published in 1964.
