Eggheads’ CJ de Mooi reveals agony of living with AIDS for 30 years

Former Eggheads star CJ de Mooi has revealed he might not have long left to live after living with AIDS for 30 years.

Sharing the news, de Mooi, 49, wrote: “the agony of the last 3 years means I may not have many left,” on a Tweet posted on Easter Sunday.

Fundraising for de Mooi

A fundraising page created on April 11 by a friend of de Mooi claims the “extremely ill” former TV personality is struggling financially.

“CJ needs money desperately,” it says, “after false accusations were made about him, he lost his job, livelihood, and reputation,” it added.

“He is bankrupt, extremely ill and in imminent danger of losing his house,” the GoFundMe page, which has currently raised over £4,000 says.

On Monday de Mooi urged people donating to instead give to the victims of the Sri Lanka terror attacks.

He wrote: “Thank you all for the support but if you were donating to my page today, please give to the victims of the Sri Lanka attacks instead.”

The quizzer is a former panelist on the BBC quiz show Eggheads. Prior to leaving the programme, de Mooi had appeared on the show since it first aired in 2003.

Controversy has followed the former Egghead since his departure from the show. He was investigated by police over allegations of sexual assault, of which he was cleared.
